A quality environment to be protected

The relief and the landscapes of this environment  have been and still are essential factors of the development of tourism in our area and particularly in the Upper Giffre Valley.

For example ,the site of the Cirque Fer à Cheval is as famous as the Mont Saint Michel, the Ardèche and the Verdon Gorges as Important Site Operations.

A territory in constant growth

The large population increase  of the past years  is due to the combined effect of the dynamic industrial activity and the quality of life offered by the geography of the area.
The demographic growth of our territory is the largest in the département of Haute-Savoie with more than 40% between 1975 and 1999. The total population has reached more than 80,000 inhabitants and has been in constant progression for more than 40 years.
Furthermore, with a  proportion of young people  of 2.2 ( proportion of  under 20s to over 60s), the area has a proportion of more than twice the average  of France (1.3) and  of Rhône-Alpes (1.4).On the other hand ,the INSEE  estimates  tend to indicate considerable ageing of the population in the years to come ( more than +147% is forecast for the over seventy-fives) .

A quality environment to be protected

The quality of life offered by our territory lmakes it immensely attractive. Its environment and its tourist activities mean that its growth must be approached with the aim of lasting development.

Special care is being given to the landscaped  environment

By far the greatest part of the territory possesses a heritage of quality La tour des comtes, La Roche sur Foron
buildings with old town and village centres as well as some remarkable heritage features such as the town of La Roche-sur- Foron , the second most historical town of Haute-Savoie.

The Arve and the Giffre are the two structuring components of the Faucigny landscape. Fishing is an important activity of our area which offers a diversity of places and animal species: mountain lakes, rivers, streams…....
