Magland

This commune of the Arve Valley, the largest of the Canton of Cluses, possesses  an important screw-cutting industry of a high technological level.

There are about a hundred companies : ranging from  the family company to the factory employing more than 100 people. To these must be added the forestry activity and wood industry (sawmills, timber firms, special formwork) and numerous shops, transport firms and civil engineering firms.
Three large farms  work on the territory of the village, of which two are GAECs (grouped farming activities).

To see...
Saint-Maurice’s Church : of 19th century Sardinian neo-classical style. The decoration was restored in 1978/79, neo-classical retables.

seignorial house is situated in the administrative centre, opposite the Municipal Buildings.

La Cascade d’Orlier : falls  from the cliff opposite the cemetery.

The Orlier  Waterfall:  situated on the border between  Magland and Sallanches , it comes from the water that rushed into the grooves of the desert of Platé.

The Magland  Cliffs: these formidable cliffs ,overlooking  Magland  from the east, are riddled with caves where recent archeological digs have unearthed polished stone axes, decorated bone pins and plaques and objects in bronze that, together with the many pre-Latin place names, bear witness that the area was settled in antiquity.
The coins and pieces of pottery  revealed also confirm that the site was in use during the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 5th centuries.

The name Magland  is probably pre-Roman.

Walks : the Crédo Wood educational walk  which leads to the foot of the Orlier Waterfall. Explanatory signs inform you about the local fauna and flora .
The GR 96 road goes through Magland.
