Saint-Sigismond has gone from being a small rural village to a residential village .
Implanted on two slopes and well-exposed to the sun, the commune is composed of a dozen scattered hamlets separated by the slope (with a difference in altitude of 500m ) and spreads over 791 hectares. It has a population of 591 inhabitants ( 1999 census) half of whom are under 20.
Saint-Sigismond is the birthplace of the clock-making industry introduced by Mr Claude Joseph BALLADOUD in the 18th century. This music-loving man also created the first Faucigny brass band whose tri-centenary we celebrate in 2006. |

Saint-Sigismond will captivate you by its protected and privileged environment which offers tourists Nordic activities , cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing on the plateau d’Agy in winter and the mountain pastures with their heifers in summer.
Throughout the year you can visit its rich architectural heritage : Savoyard farms and barns, wash houses, ovens, a Sardinian neoclassical church with its retable which is listed as a historical monument. Guided tours, under the direction of a qualified guide, are organised in July and some Saturdays in spring and autumn on the Heritage Days to visit the wooden structures dating from the 19th century which are typical of the hamlets.
Some inhabitants have renovated their houses in order to offer very pleasant country gîtes for tourists to rent. On the plateau d’Agy you will find the Nordic centre where you can hire equipment, have cross-country skiing lessons and eat at the restaurant.
